Snapshot: Sharp Café Coffee

By Harper Hope

If you are a member of the Collegiate Upper School community, then you must be aware of the three jugs of liquids that rest on the counter on the right of the café. Each jug is filled with a different substance: regular coffee, decaf, and hot water. Supposedly, these beverages are only for Seniors, faculty, and staff. Unfortunately, these drinks often run out near the beginning of the school day, sometimes not even before the bell rings. So why? A few Senior members of the community shared their thoughts on the matter and why this might occur.

One recent Wednesday, Abby Craig (’24) walked over to the coffee station early morning during second period, B block, and noticed there was none left. She just wanted some coffee. Craig believes Juniors are taking all the coffee in secret. She said, “It’s really disappointing how it’s out already, because I know it’s the Juniors who took it, and it’s not even for them. It is ridiculous.”

Ava Lingerfelt (’24) shared, “It makes me really mad. What’s the point if it’s decaf?” Although the decaf tends to run out after the coffee, they both go extremely fast. Chloe Miles (’24) shared, “I really like mixing the coffee with the hot chocolate.” This can potentially be an issue for Miles, as the coffee runs out before she can even get a chance to get her pack of hot chocolate.

Lastly, Alice Oakey (’24) shared, “I don’t really drink coffee, but the water is normally out as well. Usually when this happens, the café staff lets me go behind the counter to fill my cup, which is super nice of them.” In difficult times, the café staff is always willing to lend a helpful hand. They are key members of the Collegiate Upper School community, and deserve more appreciation than they receive. So remember to thank the café staff for putting out the coffee, decaf, and hot water in the first place.
