Superstars Pizza, a locally-owned pizza and sub shop located on 5700 Patterson Avenue, is home to some of the best food in Richmond. From their wide variety of famous subs to their ready-to-go pizza, you really get many choices from either type of food. Whether you are looking to dine in with friends, or bring the food back home to your family, there is an option for you.

Superstars pizza was created in 1994 by Collegiate alum Ned Sinnott (’86) and his former partner. He had an idea and sought it by creating what he had always envisioned in his mind. Superstars began to make pizza and subs right when they opened, attracting people due to the word on the street.

This place really caught the eye of the public due to its location and bright colored signs. Over a 20-year period, not much has changed about the restaurant except the location. In 2001, they moved to their current location, just a block east of the original location. Today, it resides next to The Wooden Spoon Cafe, and The Grill in a little strip on Patterson.

The company’s motto has been: Treat people well, exceed expectations, buy high-quality meats, cheeses, and the freshest produce, and dedicate themselves to consistency so that the final product always tastes the same.

As a frequent customer, Superstars’ has left me satisfied with my eating experience every time I go. My usual order is a piece of the Cheese Explosion, a classic pizza with many types of cheese on it (mozzarella, American, and cheddar), or my personal favorite sub, “The Jerry,” which is a classic sub with all the fixings and the addition of bacon and honey mustard. In the front of the store, you can find the famous Superstars to-go frozen pizzas, as well as salads that are easy options for lunch or dinner. With the menu being as broad as it is, there is an option for everyone’s liking. Although I have not ordered everything on the menu, I am sure that anything you order will not disappoint. Superstars is my personal favorite sub place in Richmond because it’s a locally-owned shop that I can support and uses the freshest ingredients.

Wyatt King (‘23) says, “I typically go there whenever I want a quality slice of pizza or sub, because I know I can rely on them to satisfy my taste buds.” I agree with King that when going to Superstars, you get exactly what you’re looking for. Prices for subs range from $6.99 for a half sub to $10.99 for a whole 12-inch sub. It’s a great price for the quality of food you are receiving. Sam Hurst (‘24) says it’s one of his “go-to grub spots,” and “that place is gas any time of the day. They always leave me satisfied with my order. As the name describes, the Cheese explosion pizza explodes with flavor on every bite.”

I think that it is safe to say that the Collegiate community enjoys a nice slice of pizza, or sub from Richmond’s very own Superstars.
