Snapshot: Hank Shield Commits to Rhodes College

By Nicholas Chambers and Miles Prusek

Collegiate senior and star varsity center fielder Hank Shield (’23) recently committed to Rhodes College to further his academic and baseball career. He chose Rhodes over other schools, such as Texas Christian, Longwood, and DePauw. Shield summed up his recruiting process with one word: “meticulous.” Many factors led to this decision, but Shield cited the “beautiful campus” and “extremely competitive baseball program” as two of the main reasons that Rhodes was the best fit. He recently was able to visit the campus and the surrounding city of Memphis, and Shield said that he felt at home. The school and city “reminded me a bit of Richmond,” but it still felt “new and exciting.”

Shield will reunite with senior Collegiate teammate and Rhodes baseball commit Collin Kimball-McKavish (’23). The two will team up again for the Lynx next spring. Shield said, “It will be fun to play with Collin again, and it will be nice to have a familiar face at college.”

Shield is looking forward to finishing his last season with Collegiate baseball. The Cougars sit at 19-4-1 near the end of the regular season, and Shield has been a major part of the team’s success. He is an electric leadoff hitter, and shut down center fielder. The Cougars will look to continue their success, with Shield leading the way.
