Watson Andrews (‘27) is a man of both deep thoughts and simplicity. Found in the Academic Services room on an early March morning, enjoying a quick bacon, egg and cheese biscuit before getting back to work, Andrews gave a team of Match reporters the opportunity to thoroughly see a day in his life.
Andrews said his day had been “pretty rough” so far; he started the day by coming to school for detention at 7:30 a.m. That is not the ideal way to start your day, but Andrews tried to keep a positive attitude through it all. In the first period of the day, Andrews had the opportunity to watch a movie with Upper School English teacher Dr. Will Dunlap in his English class, Reading and Writing Film. Andrews did not particularly like or dislike this film, so the start of his day was described as “below average,” but the movie was emotional and touching.
With regards to the rest of his day, Andrews is an avid Ducks Unlimited member, saying that it is “always one of the best parts of my week,” when the club meets on Wednesday afternoons. “I really appreciate and believe in the cause of Ducks Unlimited, in order to preserve our wetlands,” said Andrews.
After a long day of academics and joking around with friends, Andrews participates on the boys spring track team, where he is known as, according to him, “one of the fastest out there.” You could probably find Andrews in the catalog of Collegiate’s historic high jumpers, as he earned second place and an All-State achievement in that event during the winter track season.
However, Andrews’ favorite part of the day is when he arrives at his house, where he likes to catch some z’s. “My favorite thing to do is sleep, especially dream,” said Andrews. Andrews also says he is an “avid dreamer” because it feels like a movie. When asked what he dreams about, he replied with: “infinite wisdom,” because he wants to know everything. Andrews continuously gets caught in deep thoughts about the universe and possible conspiracies, and he spends his free time researching the truth about unsolved mysteries.
Andrews is especially looking forward to finishing his Junior year and getting to his favorite time of the year, summer, where there is little worry and “money to be made” at his job at Westwood Pharmacy, which he deeply enjoys. With all that goes on in his life, he really appreciates his time with his friends, when they can expand on some of his deep thoughts.
