A typical day for golf prodigy Owen Lingerfelt (‘26) starts with getting up at 7:30 a.m. After showering and getting to school, he enjoys hanging out in the Sharp Academic Commons before the start of first period.

Lingerfelt’s favorite class he’s taken in the Upper School was the Writing for Publication class with Upper School English teacher (and Match advisor) Vlastik Svab, which he already completed in his Junior year. This year, he has most enjoyed AP Microeconomics, although he has liked all of his classes. Once he finishes his morning classes, he heads to the McFall Hall to eat lunch with his friends.

After school, he usually goes straight to sports practice. Lingerfelt is currently in the middle of the winter basketball season, though he’s more notable for his golf activities in the spring. He is slotted to be the team’s number one golfer this spring and will go on to play at Hampden-Sydney College next fall. When asked why he chose Hampden-Sydney, Lingerfelt replied, “it felt like I was home there” and that “it matched with my personality.” Seated in the Academic Commons, he told us, through a mouth full of Chick-fil-A, that Hampden-Sydney reminded him of the community here, his favorite part of Collegiate.

After sports practice is over, Lingerfelt heads home to eat. Lingerfelt noted his favorite food to eat for dinner is steak. After dinner, he gets started on his homework for the evening. If he sees it’s on and is interested, he enjoys watching football to finish his evening.
