The Grill: Where Richmond Comes to Refuel

By Emery Williamson

Nestled in the heart of Richmond’s West End, The Grill is a local favorite renowned for its welcoming atmosphere, hearty meals, and southern flavors. Whether you’re stopping by for a casual lunch or a cozy dinner, The Grill offers something for everyone at any time. The menu features juicy burgers, grilled seafood, flavorful chicken, and a variety of other dishes. The Grill has earned a royal following of Richmond locals and travelers thanks to its outstanding food and quick service.

I started dining at The Grill a few years ago when my dad decided it would be the perfect spot for a family dinner. From that point on, whenever I spend time with family and friends, I never hesitate to suggest The Grill. It feels like more than a restaurant; it’s a place where conversations run long, and you end up sharing moments that stick with you. The familiar faces of the staff and the smell of the sizzling food from the kitchen just put me in a great mood every time I visit.

My favorite meal at The Grill is the hand-breaded chicken tenders tossed in buffalo sauce, with a side of crispy fries. Every bite is loaded with tang, and the tenders are perfectly seasoned; juicy on the inside, and crispy on the outside. The buffalo sauce adds just the right amount of heat, perfectly balancing the spice and flavor of the chicken. The fries are golden and crisp, complementing the chicken tenders. I personally love dipping my fries and chicken tenders in ranch; it adds a cool, creamy flavor that goes perfectly with the spicy buffalo sauce.

With the incredible food and atmosphere the grill has to offer, I often share my experiences there with friends. Tate Quinby (‘27) stated, “Their chicken tenders are delicious, with just the right amount of seasoning and flavor. The Grill truly is hard to beat.” Crawford Shield (‘27) commented, “My favorite meal is the Philly cheesesteak. The green peppers make the Philly cheesesteak elite.” Beyond those favorites, The Grill’s menu continues to impress with generous portions, amazing quality, and attention to flavor that separates it from other restaurants. The staff works incredibly hard, preparing the food with care, and presenting it in a quite appetizing way.

Another reason I love the Grill so much is that it’s great for watching sports. The Grill has multiple screens throughout the restaurant, showing sports and other content. This is a great way to entertain their customers while they are cooking up the food in the back. With all the TVs spread throughout, it is difficult to miss a play of a game or a piece of a show you like to watch.

The prices can be expensive, depending on what you order. For example, the hand-breaded tenders with fries cost $13.95, which is one of the meals that I believe you truly get the best bang for your buck. However, with menu items like fish and chips, and tacos (of which you get three), the dish can cost you up to roughly $18. If you order an entree and want a side, you will also have to pay another $4.95. However, it is usually worth the money.

Overall, The Grill perfectly blends flavor, hospitality, and community. The Grill provides an experience that keeps customers coming back. From family dinners to late-night hangouts and intense sports games, The Grill remains a go-to destination for great food and company. It’s a Richmond gem that continues to bring people together one delicious meal at a time.
