Photo Essay: All Girls Backpacking Trip

The All Girls Backpacking trip is a two-day, one-night backpacking trip offered through Outdoor Collegiate. This trip was started four years ago by Mrs. Cooke. The adventure is set in Virginia’s colorful mountains off of Skyline Drive. After departing early one Saturday morning in October, this year’s nine participants journeyed along with two teacher chaperones, Mrs. Cooke and Mrs. Schweickart, to the trail head a few miles into Shenandoah National Park. On that brisk, autumn morning, the backpackers set out for a weekend of adventure, warm clothes (including sturdy pants), creek crossings, and much more. At about a ten-mile round trip, Riprap Hollow is a relatively easy beginner hike and made for an incredibly fun weekend. I would recommend the AGB to anyone who enjoys the outdoors but is fine with roughing it for one night.
