Upper School Jazz Band Rocks Oates

On Monday, February 3, the Upper School Jazz Band, led by the legendary Mr. Mike Boyd, shook the audience in Oates Theater twice. First they played in the Upper School assembly, and then that evening in the annual Winter Jazz Jam. The Winter Jazz Jam is an event that Collegiate hosts every January where jazz groups come from Trinity and Steward to play in Oates. Excellent student musicians from all over Richmond can showcase their talents. Our own Jazz Band brought the house down with their own rendition of Snarky Puppy’s “Quarter Master.”

To close the show, all three jazz bands squeezed together on the Oates stage to play the traditional New Orleans jazz spiritual, “I’ll Fly Away.” Joyful noise, indeed!
